Lower Manhattan · Launching 2026
Echoes of Revolution: NYC is a free city-scale augmented reality experience for mobile devices, set in the world of Assassin’s Creed® III, that brings New York City’s revolutionary history to life.

Coming soon
The app goes live in 2026 to coincide with the 250th anniversary of American independence. Leave your email and we’ll let you know the moment it’s available.
What it is
Echoes of Revolution: NYC takes place in the streets of lower Manhattan where the events of the American Revolution actually happened. Using the world of Assassin’s Creed® III and Assassin’s Creed® Rogue, and powered by Niantic Spatial, the app overlays a richly detailed 18th-century New York onto the city you see around you today. Around ten location-based memories, roughly 90 minutes in total, all free to download and play. No prior knowledge of Assassin’s Creed or of video games is needed.
Memories
Join the American cannon crews holding the line against the British Navy.
Interrogate Washington and his contemporaries to uncover the truth behind the Great Fire of New York.
Just a first look. The full experience features around ten memories across the city at launch.
Plan your visit
Any of the memory locations in lower Manhattan will do. There is no fixed starting point and no set order. Many visitors begin near the East River waterfront, or at Fraunces Tavern.
Daylight hours give you the clearest view of the landmarks. The full loop takes around 90 minutes, though you can play any single memory in a few minutes if that’s the time you have.
The experience is designed to be broadly accessible. Most memories can be experienced from a seated or standing position once you are at the location.
Historical foundation
Echoes of Revolution: NYC is built on the historical expertise and curatorial vision of the NYC Revolutionary Trail, developed by Gotham Center for New York City History.
Every moment in the app is grounded in the historical record and shaped with the Gotham Center’s team. The result is an experience that is faithful to the history, and one that a 14-year-old on a school visit, a lifelong New Yorker, a historian, or a first-time tourist can each enjoy.
